Getting to the Byway:

Anchorage, AK
Before you start, check the schedule for the [Whittier Tunnel](http://www.dot.state.ak.us/creg/whittiertunnel/index.shtml). You may not make the ferry in Whittier if you do not reach the tunnel when it is open. Be aware foot and bike travel is prohibited through the tunnel, and there are vehicle restrictions as well. * Head west on W International Airport Rd toward Postmark Dr. * Make a U-turn at Postmark Dr. * Turn right onto the Minnesota Dr. S ramp to Seward Hwy S. * Merge onto Minnesota Dr. * Continue on O'Malley Rd. * Turn right onto the Seward Hwy. S ramp. * Merge onto AK-1 S/Seward Hwy. * Continue on Seward Highway to Portage Glacier Road. * Take Portage Glacier Road east to Whittier. You will enter the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel shortly after the Placer Creek Bridge in Whittier. * The Tunnel leads directly to the Whittier Terminal.

Juneau, AK
* Exit from the Juneau International Airport onto AK-7 west. * Continue on AK-7 west to Auke Bay and Auke Bay Terminal.

Seattle, WA
* From the airport exit, take WA-99 north to WA-518/I-405. * Take WA-518 east to I-5. * Take I-5 north through Seattle to Exit 250 in Bellingham. * Take Exit 250 west onto Old Fairhaven Parkway. * Turn left (west) onto Harris Ave and continue to the waterfront and the ferry terminal.

The byway is strictly ferry routes between ports. The byway consists of 33 ports in Alaska, Canada, and Washington. The following is a list of ports (all in Alaska unless otherwise noted): Metlakatla, Ketchikan, Wrangell, Petersburg, Kake, Sitka, Angoon, Tenakee, Hoonah, Pelican, Gustavus, Juneau, Haines, Skagway, Yakutat, Cordova, Tatitlek, Valdez, Whittier, Chenega Bay, Seldovia, Homer, Port Lions, Kodiak, Chignik, Sand Point, King Cove, Cold Bay, False Pass, Akutan, Unalaska, Prince Rupert (BC), and Bellingham (WA).
