Sawtooth Scenic Byway

The Sawtooth Scenic Byway takes you along the Sawtooth Mountains- the heart of the Idaho Rockies. From Shoshone to the south, this byway rolls northward through fertile agricultural land to the resort towns of Hailey, Ketchum, and Sun Valley and then carves its way through the rocks and woodlands of the rugged Sawtooth National Recreation Area, which is packed with rivers, streams, and 300 alpine lakes.

Views of the headwaters of the Salmon River through its high mountain valley can be perceived by the traveler of the byway. Also, the peaks of Boulder, White Cloud and Sawtooth mountains dominate the skies for 60 miles in any direction. You'll see for yourself why the Sawtooths are called "America's Alps."
