Notice: Three Peaks Recreation Area will be temporarily closed on Saturday, September 19th , 2020 and Saturday, October 10th , 2020 for the Utah High School Cycling League regional races. Activities that will be effected: mountain biking, OHV riding, horseback riding, disc golf, RC racing, model aviation, hiking, and camping.

Three Peaks Recreation Area is host to a to many outdoor activities: mountain biking, hiking, disc golf, OHV and ATV riding, RC car driving, model plane flying, camping and horseback riding. With more then 6,000 acres of land to explore there is sure to be something for everyone.

Three Peaks RC Track Facility

The Three Peaks RC Track has an ADA track stand and three remote control car tracks; one maze track, one oval track and a kid's course. The facility is equipped with a bathroom, pavilion, picnic table, information kiosk and drinking water.

Fee Structure:

  • Pilots under the age of 16 are free

  • Fee is charged for those using the airfield, not spectators

  • Daily fee and yearly pass valid for both RC Track and Model Port

$2 Daily Flying Fee

$220 Exclusive Use Reservation/Day

$0 Yearly Pass for 10 Hours of Volunteer Maintenance

    • Three Peaks Equestrain Trailhead Facility

      The Equestrian Trailhead in Three Peaks contains a large parking lot, restrooms, water, a covered picnic area, and corrals. The variable terrain and soil type make this an attractive location for equestrians year round. Despite equestrian use not being permitted on the mountain bike trails, there are many miles of OHV trail and cross country trail open area for equestrians to use.


      Three Peaks Disc Golf Course Facility

      Difficulty: Advanced

      This high desert course features rugged terrain and scenic views. Unique granite rock formation, pinion trees, juniper trees and sage brush litter the landscape providing challenging obstacles. This course has large concrete tee pads, Innova DISCatcher baskets, and course map signs at every tee pad. In addition to the 18 tee pads there are 6 alternate tee to shorten the length of each of the longer pars. (2, 5, 10, 14, 15 and 18). Each basket has an alternate pin placement to change the course.

      Overview

      The Rocky Peak Campground is located within Three Peaks Recreation Area, which is one of the largest designated recreation areas in Cedar City, UT. In 2006, Three Peaks was designated as a Special Recreation Management Area. What previously existed as a local open space playground has since been developed into a recreation area to meet the needs of almost any outdoor enthusiast. 

      The site is located 10 miles outside of town at 5,938 feet elevation and sees weather similar to that in Cedar City. Visitors can expect cool temperatures in Spring and Fall with low's during these times approaching or below freezing. Summer temperatures can often bring the high's into the range of 90-95 degrees Fahrenheit.

      Rocky Peak Campground and Three Peaks Recreation Area provides opportunities for hikers, bikers, equestrian, Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) users, Remote Control (RC) car drivers, and many more. The campground is located within a small Pinyon -Juniper forest, and many of the campsites will provide shade.

      Recreation

      Mountain bike and hiking trails can be accessed from the campground. Three Peaks Recreation Area contains a hiking and mountain biking trailhead, an equestrian trailhead, Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) trailhead, a paintball complex, shooting range, a remote controlled (RC) car track, two disc golf courses, and a model airplane runway.

      Facilities

      Each campsite has a picnic table, fire ring with grill grate, and is in close proximity to a vault toilet. There is no drinking water or electricity hookups in the campground, but drinking water can be found at the nearby trailheads.

      Group campsites have three picnic tables, an oversized fire ring, charcoal grills, and a pavilion.

      Natural Features

      Ancient volcanic activity has shaped the surrounding area's rocky terrain into what it is today. Granite boulders are mixed into the patches of Pinyon and Juniper all throughout the campground. Many sites throughout the campground offer views of the Hurricane Cliffs range that rise above Cedar City.

      Nearby Attractions

      Well known as "Festival Town USA," Cedar City, UT almost always has something happening. Visitors that are looking to stay close to camp can check out attractions like the Southern Utah Museum of Art, Frontier Homestead State Park, or certain times of year even enjoy a day at the world famous Shakespeare Festival. Rocky Peak Campground is just over one hour from Zion National Park and just over a 1.5 hour drive to Bryce Canyon National Park.


      Three Peaks Model Port Facility

      Three Peaks Recreation Area features a unique recreation activity model aviation. The Model Port meets to AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) standards by being 500 feet by 60 feet and is paved. This site provides a restroom facility, a large parking area, pavilion, tables and benches.

        • Three Peaks OHV Trailhead Facility

          Notice: Three Peaks Recreation Area will be temporarily closed on Saturday, September 19th, 2020 and Saturday, October 10th, 2020 for the Utah High School Cycling League regional races. Activities that will be effected: mountain biking, OHV riding, horseback riding, disc golf, RC racing, model aviation and hiking.

          Three Peaks provides a large OHV/ATV staging area with plenty of parking, water, pavilion, picnic table and a restroom. From hill climbs and flat terrain, loops to historic two track roads, the 42 miles of OHV routes are diverse and exciting for every rider level. These routes exclude mountain bike trails. Please remember to ride on designated routes!


          Three Peaks Mountain Bike Trailhead Facility

          Three Peaks Mountain Bike Trail System: 25+ miles

          Recommended uses: mountain biking, hiking and trail running

          Difficulty: beginner, intermediate and advanced

          Three Peaks Mountain Bike Trailhead is host to multiple mountain bike trails - providing 25+ miles of designated trail system. The 20 trails offer a variety of challenges: sand, rocks, steep downhills, uphill climbs, and ladder bridges. The practice loop and skill loop offer riders a chance to hone their and see similar obstacles that are scattered through the trail system. The parking area provides a restroom, picnic table, pavilion, information kiosk, and water.


          Rocky Peak Trailhead Facility

          Visitors to the Three Peaks Recreation Area enjoy hiking among many other recreation opportunities. A popular hike, Rocky Peak Trail, is located near the large group camping area, park at the Rocky Peak Trailhead and the trail leads to the top of one of the peaks in the area. This is a relatively short hike, however, it can be steep in areas. The uphill hike is greatly rewarded with a stunning 360 view of the surrounding area. There are other opportunities to hike around and explore the Three Peaks Area, with varying terrain, large areas to explore, and a variety of wildlife to be seen. Three Peaks has something to offer every hiker.


          Ironside Disc Golf Course Facility

          Difficulty: Advanced

          One of the two courses at Three Peaks Recreational Area, Ironside is an 18 hole course with beautiful views, unique natural obstacles, and amazing pin locations. The Ironside course has double baskets for each hole, creating two courses in one.
