SEVEN POINTS (PA) Campground

Overview

  • Seven Points Recreation area, located in the central region of Raystown Lake, is perfectly situated for outdoor recreation. Within a short walk from every campsite, visitors can find everything from interpretive trails to a visitor center. Plus there's easy access to swimming, boating, fishing hiking, and biking. Recreation

Boating is always popular at Raystown, but there's more than just boating. Fishing for muskies, small and large mouth bass, brown trout, and many other Pennsylvania species is excellent. Every summer weekend there are education and entertainment programs at the amphitheater. The Greenside Pathway, a recycled rubber tire hiking trail, provides a safe walking route that connects the campgrounds to all of the recreational facilities within Seven Points; and world class mountain biking is available on the Allegrippis Trails and mountain biking skills park near the Visitors Center. Other nearby trails include the Lower Trail (Rails to Trails), the Terrace Mountain Trail, the Old Loggers Trail, and the Mid State Trail.

Facilities

There are six camping loops within Seven Points, with a full service marina available. Each camping loop has a restroom and a playground, and most loops have showers. Campsites are spacious where available and include a picnic table, fire grill, and lantern hanger; most sites offer electric hookups. As a convenient bonus, sites are a mile from groceries, bait, tackle, and gas.

Raystown Lake is located within the ridge and valley province of Pennsylvania. The lakeshore is lined with an old oak-hickory forest giving way to mountain ridges and cliffs. The man-made lake is fed by the Raystown Branch tributary of the Juniata River and is the largest lake completely in the state of Pennsylvania.

Recreation season temperatures range from the 60s to 90s, with three to four inches of rain per month. The nights are cool and the days are pleasant through spring and fall.

Nearby Attractions

Campers can take day trips to the Lincoln Caverns, Altoona Railroaders Museum, Swigart Antique Car Museum, or other nearby attractions. Visit www.raystown.org for local attractions and activities. The nearby city of Huntingdon, 11 miles north, is a good place for restaurants, shopping, and theaters.


SUSQUEHANNOCK Campground

Overview

Susquehannock Campground is located on the 8,300-acre Raystown Lake, in the ridge and valley province of Pennsylvania.

The lake offers ample outdoor recreation opportunities, from fishing and boating to picnicking and hiking. Campers have access to a marina, shopping, restaurants and cultural attractions within a short drive. Several fun family events take place in the lake area throughout the summer.

Recreation

Fishing is excellent at the lake, with muskies, small and large mouth bass and brown trout found in abundance. Stream and river fishing are nearby, as are hunting areas for deer, turkey, grouse and Canada geese.

Nearby trails such as the Allegrippis Trails, Old Loggers Trail, Hillside Nature Trail and Terrace Mountain Trail offer hiking and biking.

Many family activities are available in the Raystown Region during summer. Visitors can pick up a free guide at the Raystown Lake Visitor Center or campground entrance station to help them plan sightseeing, hiking, biking, boating and canoe and kayak rental opportunities.

Facilities

Susquehannock is a primitive campground that offers more than 60 campsites, including over 20 tent-only sites. Many are waterfront, while others are just a short walk from the water's edge. There are no electric hookups. Vault toilet restrooms and drinking water are provided. Showers are available nearby at the Seven Points Beach and coin-operated laundry facilities are available in the Seven Points Campground.

Local wildlife consists of white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, ruffed grouse, Canada geese, pheasants, bald eagles, ospreys, great blue herons and occasional black bears.

The campground is only three miles from groceries, a bait shop, gas and a full service marina. The City of Huntingdon, located 14 miles north, is a good place to stop for restaurants, shopping and theaters.

NANCY'S BOAT TO SHORE CAMPGROUND (PA) Campground

Overview

The Nancy's Boat to Shore Campground, in the central region of Raystown Lake, is the perfect secluded getaway camping spot accessible only by boat. Located near both James Creek and Aitch Boat Launch areas, the campground is situated on the shoreline of Raystown Lake away from public roadways. Nancy's camp map 

Recreation

Fishing is excellent with small and large mouth bass, muskies, striped bass, and brown trout, abundant in the lake. Trough Creek State Park is nearby across the lake; Seven Points and Lake Raystown Resort are both within 8 lake miles. Nearby trails, including Lower Trail (Rails to Trails), Terrace Mountain Trail, Old Loggers Trail and Mid State Trail, attract plenty of traffic.

Facilities

Campsites are accessed by boat only. Although remote and primitive, each campsite offers a picnic table and campfire ring. Maximum of two tents permitted per campsite. There are no electric hookups. Vault toilets are available. Some of the campsites are located in open, grassy areas while others are tucked into wooded areas. Potable water must be brought along to the campground as no water is currently available.

Aitch Picnic Shelter Campground

Overview

Aitch Recreation Area is located approximately near the geographic middle of Raystown Lake along the western side. The recreation area is easily accessible from US Route 26 and offers a great location for picnicking and fishing on an accessible pier.

Lakeside fishing piers and excellent aquatic habitat makes Aitch a popular area for shoreline anglers. A boat ramp within the facility provides access to the 8,300-acre Raystown Lake, which is popular for boating, camping and fishing.

Aitch offers one group shelter with approximately 10 tables and 20-amp electrical outlets. It is fully accessible and comfortably accommodates up to 80 people with a view of the lake.

Aitch is situated in a cove of Raystown Lake. Nearby access to the lake makes this shelter a great place to picnic, fish and boat.

Overview

Tatman Run Recreation Area is located on the southern end of Raystown Lake. The recreation area is easily accessible from Route 994 and offers a great location for picnicking and swimming at the beach.

A boat ramp within the facility provides access to the 8,300-acre Raystown Lake, which is popular for boating, camping and fishing.

Facilities

Tatman offers one group shelter with approximately 10 tables. Electricity is not available. It is fully accessible and comfortably accommodates up to 80 people with a view of the lake.

Natural Features

Tatman Run is situated right off the main channel of Raystown Lake. Nearby access to the lake makes this shelter a great place to picnic, fish, swim and launch a boat all in one day.

Corbin's Island Picnic Shelter Campground

Overview

Corbin's Island Recreation Area is located at the northern end of Raystown Lake, just downstream from the Raystown Dam. The recreation area is easily accessible from US Route 22 and offers a great location for picnicking, fishing, and floating down the river.

Recreation

Raystown Dam, Ridenour Overlook and Hawn's Overlook are three beautiful overlook areas that are within a 10 minute drive from Corbin's Island. A boat ramp within the facility provides access for small fishing boats, kayaks, canoes and tubes.

Corbin's Island offers one group shelter with approximately 10 tables and 20-amp electrical service. It is fully accessible and comfortably accommodates up to 80 people in a lovely river setting.

Natural Features

Corbin's Island is situated along the shady banks of the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River. Nearby access to the cool, flowing waters of the Raystown Branch makes this shelter a great place to picnic, fish and float the river all in one day.

Seven Points Picnic Shelters Campground
List of Campsites

Overview

There are five picnic shelters located within the Seven Points Recreation Area at Raystown Lake. They include Allegheny, Dogwood, Oak, Pine and Redbud Shelters. Each of the shelters has picnic tables, electricity and are accessible. The Seven Points Recreation Area is easily reached off US Route 26 and is located near Huntingdon, PA.

Recreation

All of these shelters include an adjacent playground and horseshoe courts. Included inside Seven Points is a public beach for swimming, making these shelters a popular place for family picnics or birthday parties. A boat ramp within the facility provides access to the 8,300-acre Raystown Lake, which is popular for boating, camping, swimming and fishing.

Each of the five shelters include approximately eight picnic tables and 20-amp electrical outlets. They are fully accessible and comfortably accommodate up to 80 people.

Natural Features

Each of the shelters is unique in its view and location. Allegheny sits atop a hill overlooking Raystown Lake and offers one of the best views of the lake looking southward. Dogwood and Redbud sit near one another with a sand volleyball court nearby. Oak sits along the shoreline near the beach. Pine is located near the Visitors Center and all of its facilities. All of the shelters offer nearby access to the beach and lakeshore making them great places to picnic, swim and boat.

Within Seven Points are attractions like the Seven Points Beach, the Seven Points Marina, the Greenside Pathway, and the Allegrippis Trails and Mountain Bike Skills Park. Not too far away are areas that include Aitch Boat Launch, James Creek Boat Launch, Tatman Run Recreation Area, Lake Raystown Resort and downtown Huntingdon, PA.


Weaver Falls Shelter Campground

Overview

Weaver's Falls Recreation Area is located at the south end of Raystown Lake. The recreation area is accessible from PA Route 913 and offers a great location for picnicking and fishing.

A boat ramp within the facility provides access to the 8,300-acre Raystown Lake, which is popular for boating, camping and fishing. There is also a playground for the kids adjacent to the shelter.

Facilities

Weaver's Falls offers one group shelter with approximately 10 tables, but there is no electricity available. The shelter is fully accessible and comfortably accommodates up to 80 people with a view of the lake.

Natural Features

Weaver's Falls is situated along the main lake channel at the southernmost end of Raystown Lake. Nearby access to the lake makes this shelter a great place to picnic, fish and launch a boat all in one day.
