Acadia National Park Ranger Programs Ticket Facility

Acadia National Park protects the natural beauty of the highest rocky headlands along the Atlantic coastline of the United States, an abundance of habitats, and a rich cultural heritage. At 3.5 million visits a year, it's one of the top 10 most-visited national parks in the United States. Visitors enjoy 27 miles of historic motor roads, 158 miles of hiking trails, and 45 miles of carriage roads.    

Rangers provide interpretive programs for visitors that allow visitors to gain a better understanding of the park's natural and cultural resources. These programs are offered during the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons. Some programs allow you to "drop-in" for short interactions with a ranger as you travel through the busiest areas of the park, while others require reservations. The program is free; advance reservations require a $1 per ticket reservation fee.

Thompson Island Information Center Visitor Center

Thompson Island Information Center is located off Route 3 on a small island between the mainland and Mount Desert Island. It is a small, seasonal facility usually staffed by a park ranger and local chamber of commerce representative. Park passes are available for purchase here.

Winter Information: Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center

During winter and spring, the park shares winter visitor operations with the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce, 2 Cottage Street, at the corner of Cottage and Main streets (GPS coordinates = 44.398633, -68.204933). Hours are 8 am to 4 pm weekdays. There will be early closure at 3 pm the day before Thanksgiving Nov 22 and noon on Dec. 31, and full-day holiday closures on Nov 23, Dec 24, Dec 25, Dec 26, and Jan 1. BLACKWOODS CAMPGROUND Campground

Blackwoods campsites are reservable up to 2 months in advance at 10:00am EDT. There are no first-come, first-serve sites. All campsites are by advanced reservation only. 

Blackwoods Campground is located in breathtaking Acadia National Park on the Maine coast. Visitors venture to Acadia for its picturesque scenery, historic sites and recreational activities, including hiking, biking and canoeing.

Recreation

From gentle walks along the rugged coastline, mountain hikes, tree lined carriage roads for biking and lakes for kayaking and canoeing, Acadia offers many opportunities to get outside and be active.


Park rangers at Acadia offer a variety of programs to suit every interest and activity level. Programs include walks, talks, hikes, narrated boat cruises, bike rides and more.



A 27-mile, historic loop road system offers outstanding views of the park's ocean shoreline, coastal forests and mountain silhouettes.

Facilities

The majority of Blackwoods' sites are for small and large tents; other sites can accommodate travelers with RVs. Flush toilets, running water, and a dump station are provided, as are picnic tables and fire rings. Roads are paved.

*** There are no showers in the campground. Fee shower facilities are located 1/2 mile from the campground. The use of portable showers is prohibited.***

No Shows

• If a camper does not check-in at the ranger station by 10:00am check-out time the day after the scheduled arrival date, their reservation will be cancelled, the camper will incur a $20.00 service fee, and forfeit the first night's camping fee.

• A $10.00 service fee will apply if you make any changes to your reservation. 

Cancelling Your Reservation

• If you cancel your reservation the day before or on the day of your scheduled arrival date, you will incur a $10 service fee and forfeit your first night's camping fee. If you cancel your reservation 2 or more days before your scheduled arrival date, you will only incur a $10 service fee. 
• If you cancel a group campsite reservation within 7 full days before the scheduled arrival date, you will be charged the $10.00 service fee and forfeit the first night's use fee. 

Early Departures

• If you choose to check out of your campsite early, you must notify us in person at the Campground Ranger Station before 10:00am in order to receive a refund for your remaining nights.

A 27-mile, historic loop road system offers outstanding views of the park's ocean shoreline, coastal forests and mountain silhouettes.

Facilities

The majority of this family-oriented campground's sites are for small and large tents; some sites can accommodate RVs up to 35 ft. in length. Maneuvering RVs in the campground can be very difficult. Seawall Campground was not designed to accomodate large RVs and trailers. Please read campsite details and warnings carefully before reserving a site. Accommodations cannot be made for RVs or trailers that do not fit in reserved sites.


Flush toilets, running water and a dump station are provided, as are picnic tables and fire rings. Roads are paved. A picnic area is located on the shore across from the campground entrance.

Southwest Harbor is located on the west side of Mount Desert Island. The west side of the Island is considered the "quiet side" of Mount Desert Island. All the sites at Seawall Campground are wooded and within a 10-minute walk to the ocean. There are many beautiful and quiet hiking trails on this side of the Island, as well as Echo Lake, a wonderful lake for swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and picnics. Schoodic Woods Campground Campground

Overview

Schoodic Woods campsites are reservable up to 2 months in advance at 10:00am EDT. There are no first-come, first-serve sites. All campsites are by advanced reservation only. 

Schoodic Woods is located in breathtaking Acadia National Park on the Maine coast. Located on the Schoodic Peninsula, this campground is 1.5 miles (2.5 km) southeast of Winter Harbor. It is approximately 60-70 minutes from Bar Harbor and the main section of the park. Visitors venture to Acadia for its picturesque scenery, historic sites and recreational activities, including walking, hiking, biking and kayaking.

Recreation

The Schoodic Peninsula provides numerous recreational activities without the congestion of Mount Desert Island. A six-mile (10 km), one-way loop road offers views of lighthouses, seabirds, and forested islands. Vehicle turnouts provide opportunities to stop and enjoy the scenery. Stopping on the road and parking outside of designated pull-offs are prohibited. There are over eight miles of hiking trails on the Schoodic Peninsula and an additional eight miles of bike paths. Arey Cove Road leads to Schoodic Point, a windswept, rocky point providing spectacular views of Mount Desert Island.

Facilities

The majority of the sites are for tents; other sites can accommodate RVs and trailers. All sites (except for group sites and hike-in sites) have electric, and B-Loop sites have electric and water. Flush toilets, potable running water, and a dump station are provided, as are picnic tables and fire rings in each site. All campground roads are paved.

Acadia's Island Explorer shuttle buses provide free service between park destinations and local communities. Shuttle service is available on the Schoodic Peninsula from late-May to mid-October. There is no shuttle service between the Schoodic Peninsula and Mt. Desert Island.

Grocery, laundry, and supply stores are located in Winter Harbor, 1.5 miles from the campground. *** There are no showers in the campground or the surrounding area, closest showers are located in Mount Desert Island. The use of portable showers is prohibited.******

At ALL HIKE-IN CAMPSITES, setting, building, maintaining, attending, or using a campfire (including charcoal) is prohibited. Stoves and grills fueled by petroleum fuels such as Liquid Propane Gas (LPG), butane, or white gas are allowed.

Beautiful Lamoine State Park is just 21 miles from Acadia, with boating, fishing, and scenic views of Frenchman's Bay.

Hulls Cove Visitor Center Facility

Hulls Cove Visitor Center is the perfect place to begin your Acadia National Park visit. Here you can find park passes and park rangers to answer your questions. Large, self-service maps and digital information screens help you plan your visit. You can also purchase items from the Acadia National Park Store. Since its construction in the 1960s, visitors have taken their first 'hike' in Acadia up the center's 52 steps. Follow the signs for accessible access. The visitor center operates seasonally.

Village Green Information Center provides park information, park entrance passes, and access to Island Explorer shuttle buses in downtown Bar Harbor.

Islesford Historical Museum Facility

The Islesford Historical Museum is expected to reopen in 2021 showcasing both the upgrades and a community-curated exhibit helping to tell the stories of the Cranberry Isles.

Sieur de Monts Nature Center Facility

Sieur de Monts Nature Center has visitor services, hiking information, and interactive exhibits. It acts as a trailhead for many hiking trails starting in the Sieur de Monts area. Park rangers are present during the spring, summer, and fall months.

Rockefeller Welcome Center Facility

Rockefeller Welcome Center is located on Schoodic Peninsula off the one-way loop road. Exhibits about the old Navy base and park information can be found here.

DUCK HARBOR CAMPGROUND Campground

List of Campsites

Overview

Duck Harbor campsites are reservable starting on April 1st at 10:00am ET. Duck Harbor Campground is located on Isle au Haut, a rugged island off the coast of Stonington, Maine. Remote and inaccessible to automobiles, Isle au Haut is linked to the mainland by mailboat.

Recreation

Isle au Haut offers excellent hiking. The remoteness of the island provides a quiet experience along primitive trails with many great views of rocky cliffs and coastal scenery. Bicycling is allowed but is very rigorous, on loose rock, and unpaved road. No trail biking. You must bring your own mountain bike. Bicycles can only be unloaded at the Town Dock. No bicycles may be loaded or unloaded at Duck Harbor Landing.

Facilities

This small campground contains five campsites. Each campsite has a fire ring, picnic table, and a lean-to shelter which is three-sided with roof and floor. Dimensions are 8' tall, 8' deep, and 12.5' wide. Use of tents is limited to what can fit inside the shelters. There are three composting toilets at the campground and a hand pump for water located 0.3 miles from campground.



There is a ranger station 4 miles from the campground but only 0.3 miles from the Isle au Haut Town Landing. The ranger station is open mid-April to mid-October, when there are rangers on Isle au Haut for the season. While the rangers are typically out in the field and not at the ranger station during most of the day, the lobby remains open, allowing visitors access to maps, reading material, water, and the only public restroom in town. Boat service to Duck Harbor is limited at the beginning and end of the season. Please review the Need to Know section.

Natural Features

Isle au Haut provides opportunities to explore rocky shorelines, wooded uplands, marshes, bogs, and a mile-long freshwater lake. A section of Acadia National Park covers about half of Isle au Haut. The campground is situated on the western side of Isle au Haut. It is just south of the Duck Harbor Boat Landing. The island is approximately six miles long by two miles wide.

Nearby Attractions

There is a small, traditional village near the Isle au Haut Town Landing where one can find a general store, seasonal gift shop, a seasonal food shack, and post office.
