Lucky Peak Lake

Lucky Peak Lake is located in the foothills of southwestern Idaho on the Boise River, 10 miles southeast of the city of Boise. Recreation opportunities include swimming, fishing, boating, water-skiing or enjoying a relaxing picnic. State Highway 21, which runs alongside Lucky Peak, is a scenic drive and includes historic towns and other sites along its route. Desert and forested federal public land abound closeby for a semi-primitive or primitive recreation experience.

From Interstate 84 in southwestern Idaho, near Boise, take State Highway 21 north. The Lake is about 10 miles southeast of Boise. The non-motorized paved green belt trail also connects Boise with Lucky Peak Lake.

Important Information

Non-motorized boat accessible, or two mile hike in. Has a bear box which can accommodate one typically sized cooler. Do not bring more food than can fit in the bear box. This site has a fire grate which allows campfires unless restricted under high fire danger.

Overview

Macks Creek Park is a small campground located on the Boise River Arm of Lucky Peak Lake, just 25 miles from the Boise area and 4 miles off the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway. Visitors make the trip to enjoy quality recreational activities like boating, swimming and fishing.

Recreation

The lake offers family-friendly outdoor recreation opportunities for both travelers and residents of the urban Boise area. Macks Creek Park offers scenic views and convenient access to lake recreation.

Anglers fish for rainbow trout, Kokanee and smallmouth bass. A boat ramp is located within the campground.

Facilities

This primitive, small park offers a handful of campsites on the shore of Lucky Peak Lake. Clean vault restrooms, hand-pumped drinking water, and an emergency telephone are provided.

During the reservation season, a volunteer Camp Host lives on-site and can provide information and assistance to park users. The Park Host does have scheduled days off and may not always be available during your stay.

Parking availability is limited and there is no cell service at the lake. Two businesses within 10 miles offer limited basic food and services.

Natural Features

Lucky Peak Lake is located in the foothills of southwestern Idaho on the Boise River at an elevation of 3,055 feet. When full, the lake stretches 12 miles up-river, with 45 miles of shoreline and over 3,000 surface acres of water.

The campground is situated among shady trees along the lakeshore. The surrounding mountains are consistent with sagebrush steppe, dotted with sagebrush and bitterbrush.

A variety of wildlife lives around Lucky Peak, including bald and golden eagles, mule deer, antelope, red-tailed hawks, California quail and chukar.

Nearby Attractions

Arrowrock Reservoir, operated by the Bureau of Reclamation, is nearby, as is the beautiful Boise National Forest. These areas provide additional camping, boating, fishing, hiking and sightseeing opportunities. Recreation at Arrowrock Reservoir is managed by the U.S. Forest Service. Check with the Boise National Forest office for rules, regulations, and temporary closures before visiting.

Overview

Robie Creek Park is a secluded day use area at the confluence of Mores Creek and Robie Creek on the edge of the Boise National Forest.

Recreation

The lake provides great boating opportunities with Robie Creek Launch Area a short walk away. The park area has a playground and buoyed swimming area.

Facilities

Robie Creek Park has a playground facility, six shade shelters each with a table and stand-up grill, three vault toilets, and one group shelter with 10 picnic tables, high-top serving counters, two large grills and a hot coal bin.

Natural Features

This park is alongside the seasonal Robie Creek in the foothills of the Boise Front. Basalt canyons, ponderosa pines, granite outcrops, and steep loose slopes can be seen from the area.
