Lake Wallula

Lake Wallula, located in northeastern Oregon and southeastern Washington along the Columbia River, provides for water fun and relaxation. Up-lake near the junction of Highways 12 and 730 in Washington is an area known as Wallula Gap where the canyon narrows. Wallula Gap is the site of colorful Indian lore and is a place where interesting natural phenomena occurred during an ancient catastrophic event known as the Great Missoula Floods.

This zone has a bear box for shared food storage. It requires solid human waste be packed out. Waste bags for this purpose may be obtained at permits offices.

HOOD PARK Campground

Overview

Hood Park is located on Lake Wallula in eastern Washington. The lake is formed by McNary Lock and Dam on the Mid-Columbia River.

Lewis and Clark camped two miles downstream at the confluence of the Snake and Columbia Rivers, which is now the location of Sacajawea State Park.

Visitors enjoy camping, fishing, boating, hiking, picnicking and swimming.

Recreation

The lake provides great boating and swimming opportunities, and a boat ramp is provided for guests.

Fishing is also a popular pastime, and anglers will find excellent salmon and steelhead fishing on the lake.

Facilities

Hood Park offers 67 family sites and one day-use group picnic shelter, all with electric hookups.

Natural Features

The campground is situated along the banks of the lake, offering sweeping views. Campers enjoy relaxing in the shade of the mature trees throughout the park.

Nearby Attractions

The McNary National Wildlife Refuge is adjacent to the park. It provides habitat for migrating waterfowl, bald eagles, shorebirds and other wildlife. Nature trails and an environmental learning center are open to the public.

SPILLWAY PARK - CHINOOK SHELTER (OR) Campground

Overview

Spillway Park is located on Lake Umatilla just downstream of McNary Lock and Dam in eastern Oregon on the Mid-Columbia River.

Recreation

The park provides two overlooks to watch McNary Dam, a volleyball court and access to the McNary Dam Wildlife Area trail system.

Facilities

Spillway Park offers one day-use group shelter with eight tables and two fire grills.

Natural Features

The park is situated along the bank of the Columbia River. Day users can enjoy the relaxing shade as they get a beautiful look at McNary Dam.

Nearby Attractions

The Pacific Salmon Visitor Center, Oregon Fish Viewing Room and the McNary Dam Wildlife Area with its beautiful natural trails are all in close proximity to Spillway Park.


WEST PARK (OR) Campground

Overview

West Park is located within McNary Dam Wildlife Area just downstream of McNary Dam in Eastern Oregon on the Mid-Columbia River.

Recreation

The park provides two softball fields and a playset for the children to enjoy the park. There is also close access to the McNary Dam Wildlife Areas and its trail system.

Facilities

West Park offers two reservable picnic shelters. West Park #1 Steelhead Shelter has eight picnic tables and two fire grills and West Park #2 Coho Shelter has 10 picnic tables and two fire grills. Both shelters also offer electricity.

Natural Features

The park is located within the McNary Dam Wildlife Area. Day users enjoy the beautiful park with its mature shade trees.

The Pacific Salmon Visitor Center, Oregon Fish Viewing Room and the McNary Dam Wildlife Area with its beautiful natural trails are all in close proximity to West Park.


MCNARY BEACH - SOCKEYE SHELTER (OR) Campground

Overview

McNary Beach is located on Lake Wallula just upstream of McNary Lock and Dam in eastern Oregon on the Mid-Columbia River.

Recreation

The lake provides great boating opportunities with the Oregon Boat Ramp just downstream and a nice designated swimming area. The trailhead for the Lewis and Clark trail is also located at the east end of the park.

Facilities

McNary Beach offers one day-use group picnic shelter with six tables and two fire grills.

Natural Features

The park is situated along the bank of the Columbia River. Day users enjoy the relaxing shade of the mature trees throughout the park.

Nearby Attractions

McNary Dam is just downstream with the Pacific Salmon Visitor Center, Oregon Fish Viewing Room and the McNary Dam Wildlife Area with its beautiful natural trails.
