Buckhorn Campground Loop A Campground

Buckhorn Campground has four loops. Loop A is open seasonally on a first come, first served basis. There are no hookups for RVs on Loop A. Located next to Lake of the Arbuckles, Buckhorn Campground is also located near the Buckhorn Boat Launch and near the southern trailhead for the Rock Creek Multi-Use Trail.


Guy Sandy Campground Campground
List of Campsites

Guy Sandy Campground is open seasonally for the summer. It opens no later than Memorial Day Weekend and closes no earlier than Labor Day Weekend. It is located on the western shore of Lake of the Arbuckles. This primitive campground offers basic amenities only. RVs are permitted, but no hookups are available. Communal water spigots and pit toilets are available. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire ring with a grill.


Buckhorn Campground Loop B Campground

BUCKHORN PAVILION Campground

Overview

Buckhorn Pavilion is on the Lake of the Arbuckles shoreline, a well-loved recreational lake in south-central Oklahoma. Eat, swim, boat and fish at this convenient gathering place for family and friends.

The Lake of the Arbuckles, a reservoir created in 1966, features 36 miles of shoreline, and some of the best bass fishing in the state. Birders and photographers take note - in winter, the Lake of the Arbuckles attracts several bald eagles.

Recreation

Bring a swimsuit for quality swimming. The grass-covered grounds are spacious and ideal for games like Frisbee or football.

Facilities

The pavilion is available year-round, with generally mild winters. Picnic tables and charcoal grills are available for use, so don't forget to pack the hot dogs or steaks.

No electricity is provided at this location, but a boat launch is easily accessible.

Natural Features

The pavilion is part of Chickasaw National Recreation Area, a partially forested hilly region of lakes and mineral water springs. Lake of the Arbuckles is the largest lake, spanning 2,350 acres.

Explore the crystal clear Pavillion Springs, Hillside Springs and Black Sulphur Springs, where people have historically people have attributed medicinal and restorative powers.

Or visit the Chickasaw Cultural Center to learn about the Indian Nation that inhabited the area for centuries.


VETERANS LAKE PAVILION Campground

Overview

Veterans Lake Pavilion overlooks the north side of Veterans Lake, with a perfect view of colorful sunsets reflected in the lake. Veterans Lake, deemed a no-wake lake, is a ideal campground for water sports like kayaking, canoeing and fishing. The pavilion is easily accessible from nearby towns and is situated close to several hiking trails. Veterans Lake is part of the Platt Historic District in Chickasaw National Recreation Area. The district was named Platt National Park in 1906 and was one of the nation's earliest national parks. In 1976, it merged with the Arbuckle National Recreation Area to form what is now Chickasaw.

Recreation

Swim, paddle or fish Veterans Lake, and hike or bike around the lake's loop trail, called Veterans Trail. This is the only paved trail in the park, which makes it stroller and roller blade-friendly.

A bison pasture is just up the road, so bring the kids and cameras to see the beautiful animals grazing.

Facilities

The 80-person picnic area has easy access to a boat launch. There's a grill but no electricity, so be sure to bring charcoal if you plan to have a cookout.

Natural Features

Chickasaw National Recreation Area is where two ecosystems, the eastern deciduous forest and the mixed-grass prairie of the west, converge. This creates unique geological formations and attracts a wide variety of plant and animal species.

Nearby Attractions

The Travertine Nature Center is worth a visit, as is the collection of springs nearby. Pavilion Springs, Black Sulphur Springs and Hillside Springs are the region's remaining natural mineral springs and have historically been used for medicinal and restorative healing.


BUCKHORN CAMPGROUND (OK) CHICKASAW NRA Campground

Buckhorn area campgrounds are within close proximity to the Lake of the Arbuckles. Comfortable campsites and a lighthearted lake atmosphere make Buckhorn a great place for families and small gatherings.

Birdwatching, boating, fishing, and swimming are just some of the many activities you can enjoy during your stay.

Recreation

Bring your boat or jet skis and cruise the lake, or pack your fishing rods to catch some of the state's finest bass, perch, and crappies.


This area is most popular for water sports, but hiking and biking are great ways to explore the land and take in scenic views of Lake of the Arbuckles.

Facilities

Buckhorn is one of only two campgrounds in Chickasaw National Recreation Area with electric hookups and water. It's an ideal location for families and friends looking for a mix of camping and boating. C and D Loops are open year-round while A and B Loops close during the winter months.

Set in the naturally diverse Chickasaw National Recreation Area, Buckhorn Campground is surrounded by unique flora, fauna, and geological formations.


The rolling hillside is part of the Crosstimbers (covered with partial prairie and partial forest) and offers abundant opportunities for wildlife viewing and recreational enjoyment.

Hike or bike on the unpaved Rock Creek Multi-Use Trail or head up Rock Creek for a visit to the Chickasaw Cultural Center. There, you can learn all about the Native Americans of the region through exhibits, videos and interactive displays.

THE POINT CAMPGROUND (OK) CHICKASAW NRA Campground

Overview

The Point Campground is located at the fun-filled Lake of the Arbuckles, which is considered a recreational oasis in south-central Oklahoma.

As part of the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, the Point impresses visitors with its diversity of natural resources. The area's unique plants, spring waters and geological formations are unlike any in the surrounding territory.

Explore the prairie-landscape for a chance to see bison, white-tailed deer, opossum, gophers or black-tailed jackrabbits.

Recreation

Hikers, birdwatchers and wildflower enthusiasts enjoy exploring this diverse ecosystem.

The streams and lakes cater to boaters, swimmers, and anglers, and the Multi-Use Trail is enjoyable for hikers, bikers and horseback riders.

Hunting is also permitted in varying seasons.

Facilities

The Point offers more amenities than most of its neighboring campsites, including electric and water hookups. It's great for RV, trailer or tent camping.

Natural Features

Chickasaw lies in a zone where the eastern deciduous forest and western prairies converge. The park's flora and fauna represent both environments, as well as a unique transition environment. Lake of the Arbuckles is the largest lake in the park covering 2,350 acres.

Cold Springs Campground (OK) Chickasaw NRA Campground

Overview

Cold Springs Campground is within close proximity to Travertine Creek, which offers spring-fed waterfalls and popular swimming areas. Easy to moderate hiking trails are also nearby.


The most popular attraction for campers at Cold Springs is Bear Falls, which is just across the road from the campground. Bear Falls is a favorite swimming area for visitors on hot days. Little Niagara is another lively location for swimming, as well as picnicking, and is roughly a ten-minute walk from the campground.

Recreation

Travertine Creek is across the road from Cold Springs Campground, and hosts a popular swimming area known as Bear Falls. The creek is spring-fed from the cool, clear waters of Antelope and Buffalo Springs. The leisurely Antelope and Buffalo Springs Trail is located behind the Travertine Nature Center and is approximately 1 mile in length.

Facilities

Cold Springs is a convenient tent-only campground for families and small gatherings of friends. The two non-electric group sites are best for tent camping, though small RVs and pop-up campers (less than 20') may fit. There is one modern restroom facility with flush toilets and sinks provided in the campground.

Natural Features

Mature oak and hickory forests cover this historic part of Chickasaw National Recreation Area. The park is characterized by complex geology as intensive faulting, folding, and rock deformations have combined to form a landscape of gently rolling hills dissected by gentle streams.

CENTRAL GROUP CAMP (OK) CHICKASAW NRA Campground

Overview

Central Group Camp is in the Platt Historic District of Chickasaw National Recreation Area. It's conveniently located near Travertine Creek, several hiking trails and various natural springs. The woodland environment is home to animals like opossum, raccoons and deer.

Chickasaw National Recreation Area is Oklahoma's only national park, and one of the nation's oldest major campground destinations. It was designated as Platt National Park in 1906, then expanded into Chickasaw National Recreation Area in 1976.

Today, it's a 10,000-acre playground for all types of visitors.

Recreation

Swimming and hiking are among the favorite activities at the campsite. A short walk takes you to Panther Falls, a refreshing swimming area.

Nearby hiking trails meander along streams, past cool rushing waterfalls, and on to mineral and freshwater springs.

Facilities

The campsite is on a loop that surrounds a spacious field for activities like volleyball, football or horseshoes. There are 10 group sites open seasonally, and water spigots are close to the campsites.

The springs and streams in Chickasaw originate within a region of Oklahoma characterized by complex geology.

Intense faulting, folding, uplift and erosion have combined to form a land surface of gently rolling hills dissected by streams.

ROCK CREEK GROUP CAMP (OK) CHICKASAW NRA Campground

Overview

Rock Creek Campground is the closest campground to Veteran's Lake and is an ideal access point for fishing, hiking, birdwatching, and swimming.

Recreation

Swimming opportunities abound, with streams and springs dotting the park landscape. Nearby hiking trails weave along these streams--passing through cool rushing waterfalls--and leading to mineral water and freshwater springs. Wildlife photographers can look out for the red fox, turkey, dear and opossum.

Facilities

One group site is available at Rock Creek, and it's open year-round. These are non-electrical sites that are designed for tent camping, but small RVs can be accommodated.

Natural Features

Two ecosystems converge in Chickasaw National Recreation Area: the eastern deciduous forest and the mixed-grass prairie of the west. This creates a unique landscape called the Crosstimbers, which attracts a wide variety of plant and animal life.
