Kenai Fjords National Park
At the edge of the Kenai Peninsula lies a land where the ice age lingers. Nearly 40 glaciers flow from the Harding Icefield, Kenai Fjords' crowning feature. Wildlife thrives in icy waters and lush forests around this vast expanse of ice. Sugpiaq people relied on these resources to nurture a life entwined with the sea. Today, shrinking glaciers bear witness to the effects of our changing climate.

Kenai Fjords National Park is located just outside the town of Seward in south-central Alaska, 126 miles south of Anchorage. Even though the park is often inaccessible during the winter months, Seward is accessible year-round via the Seward Highway, a National Scenic Byway.
Follow the Seward Highway (AK-1) south from Anchorage. It will become AK-9 around mile 35 (87 miles from Anchorage) with AK-1 heading to Homer and Kenai. Continue on AK-9 to Seward.

Exit Glacier Campground Campground
List of CampsitesExit Glacier has a 12-site, walk-in, tent-campground. Sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. There are no reservations or camping fees. There is a fourteen-day stay limit. The campground frequently fills by early evening in July and August. A central food storage, cooking and dining shelter is provided. Cooking and/or storing food in campsites is prohibited. There is a pump for drinking water and pit toilets are available. Pets are not permitted in campsites.

Holgate and Aialik Bay Cabins are rustic public use cabins. The cabins are accessible only by a two-hour boat ride or a 30-minute float plane flight from Seward; there are no roads to the cabins. The cabins are open from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend and booking starts January 1st.
Holgate Cabin is located on the northeastern shore of Holgate Arm in Aialik Bay. The cabin sits on a small bluff above a cobble beach. There are spectacular views of Holgate Glacier from the cabin's front porch.
Aialik Bay Cabin is located on a five-acre lease on Port Graham Corporation land, at the upper end of Aialik Bay. It is within the heart of the coastal backcountry of Kenai Fjords National Park. You will be able to enjoy views of tidewater glaciers.
Reservations are limited to a maximum of three nights per group per cabin within the calendar year. Occupancy begins and ends at noon.
Recreation
Both cabins are ideal locations for kayaking, boating, fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing. It is possible to see black bears, seabirds, sea otters, mountain goats, and other marine mammals. There can be excellent berry picking in the open spruce forest that surrounds the cabins. Please refer to Alaska Department of Fish and Game for fishing regulations and license requirements.Facilities
The cabins are rustic, approximately 16' x 20'. There is no electricity or running water at the cabins. Fresh water is not always accessible and must be treated. There are toilet structures where disposable toilet kits must be used (environmentally- friendly human waste disposal system). Toilet kits are provided and must be packed out. There is no cell phone coverage in the backcountry. There are no mooring buoys at the beach.Holgate Cabin contains three wooden bunk beds that sleep up to six people, a work counter, table with chairs, propane heater (propane provided), fire extinguisher, and smoke detector.
Aialik Bay Cabin contains two wooden bunk beds that sleep up to six people, a work counter, table with four chairs, propane heater (propane provided), fire extinguisher, and smoke detector.
Natural Features
Both cabins are situated just above sea level and are surrounded by alder trees, blueberry, and salmonberry bushes.Holgate Cabin: The surrounding terrain is open spruce forest. The view of Holgate Glacier is spectacular and you can hear sounds of calving ice from the glacier. The cabin is surrounded by alder trees, blueberry, and salmonberry bushes.
Aialik Bay Cabin: The cabin is located near the north end of a deep, sheltered fjord. It is across the bay from Aialik Glacier. The surrounding terrain is flat, with young spruce forests, alder thickets, and a long cobble beach.
Nearby Attractions
Both cabins are in Aialik Bay.- From Holgate Cabin explore nearby Pedersen Lagoon and Quicksand Cove by kayak or boat.
- From Aialik Bay Cabin enjoy views of Pedersen Glacier and Aialik Glacier. Abra Cove is north of the cabin and can be accessed by kayak or boat.
Kenai Fjords National Park Visitor Center Facility
The main park visitor center is located in the Seward small boat harbor and is open daily during the summer season. The visitor center is closed during the winter months. The visitor center provides opportunities to view the park film, an Alaska Geographic bookstore, and park rangers to help answer questions about the area.
Exit Glacier Nature Center Facility
The Exit Glacier Nature Center is open daily during the summer season. It is closed during the winter. The nature center is the trailhead for all that the Exit Glacier area has to offer, including the Harding Icefield trail. The building includes exhibits about the Exit Glacier area, an Alaska Geographic bookstore, and park rangers to help answer questions about the area.
