Statue of Liberty National Monument

"The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World" was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the United States and is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886. It was designated as a National Monument in 1924. Employees of the National Park Service have been caring for the colossal copper statue since 1933.

Liberty Island Information Center Facility

The Liberty Island Information Center is currently closed. For information see a park ranger or volunteer in the Statue of Liberty Museum. A ranger or volunteer is available to answer questions and provide general information about the Statue of Liberty and make recommendations for your visit. The park brochure, Passport To Your National Parks (R) cancellation stamp, and the ferry departure schedule are also located in the Statue of Liberty Museum.
