Old Hickory Lake is a popular recreation destination and ranks third in Corps-wide visitation. Lakefront property is in great demand. Situated only 15 miles from Nashville, (the Home of Country Music), many country music stars have made Old Hickory Lake their backyard. Visitors come to have fun and we deliver great camping and the opportunity for boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, cycling and more. The fishing at Old Hickory Lake is world class. The 25 pound world record walleye was caught here in 1960. Largemouth bass are the premier game fish on Old Hickory.

Overview

Avondale is a wonderful destination for people looking to launch a boat or have a picnic. Here, visitors can bring their family and friends for water sports and plenty of sunshine. The picnic area is on the shores of Old Hickory Lake, just a short drive from Nashville, Tennessee. The lake is named after Andrew Jackson, the 7th U.S. President and Tennessee native with the nickname "Old Hickory."

Recreation

Avondale is an ideal launching point for boat fishing. Bank fishing is also popular, with black bass, crappie and paddlefish in the area. Water skiing, sailing, wakeboarding, and swimming are also big attractions at Old Hickory Lake.

Facilities

The group picnic shelter accommodates up to 50 people and approximately 30 vehicles. Flush toilets and a boat ramp are available for use.

Old Hickory Lake is a reservoir in north-central Tennessee created by the Old Hickory Lock and Dam. The lake receives its primary inflow from the Cumberland River and spans 22,500 acres surrounded by wooded areas and grassy flatlands.

Nearby Attractions

Lock 4 Park is just a short drive away and offers several mountain biking trails as well as a fishing dock for bank fisherman. The town of Hendersonville is very close and offers various historic districts to explore and great food.


CAGES BEND Campground

Overview

Cages Bend Campground is located on the shores of Old Hickory Lake, offering campers the opportunity to enjoy activities with a beautiful scenic backdrop. Water recreation is the major attraction for lake-goers, but with white-tailed deer, migratory song birds and waterfowl abundant in the area, birding and wildlife photography is popular as well.

Recreation

Swimming and sailing are popular ways to enjoy the lake, and anglers can find exceptional bank and boat fishing for catfish, crappie and bass.

Facilities

The campground offers a playground for families, a boat ramp for easy lake access, showers for comfort and a group picnic shelter for convenient entertaining. All sites have electric and water hookups and four sites meet accessibility standards. Laundry facilities are also onsite. Two docks are also available for fishing only, one is located inside the campground and the other is beside the boat ramp.

Old Hickory Lake is a 22,500 acre reservoir just northeast of the Nashville metropolitan area.

Fed by the Cumberland River, it stretches for 97 miles, offering an ideal home for several birds and animals in its woodland habitat.

Downtown Nashville, known as "the music city," is just over a thirty minute drive from the campground.

Visitors looking for more pier fishing opportunities can explore nearby piers at Rockland, Sanders Ferry, Shutes Branch and Bledsoe Creek State Park.

History buffs will appreciate a day trip to the Hermitage, an impressive National Historic Landmark where the seventh U.S. President, Andrew Jackson lived.

Overview

Cedar Creek Campground on Old Hickory Lake in north-central Tennessee, offers 60 campsites and limitless options for activities like boating, hiking, fishing and relaxing on the swim beach. A picnic shelter located in the day use area may also be reserved on weekdays throughout the summer. The lake is named after the 7th U.S. President, Andrew Jackson, a Tennessee-native who earned the nickname "Old Hickory," because of his tough, aggressive personality.

Recreation

Sailing, swimming and fishing are popular activities for visitors interested in water sports, while birders and wildlife viewers will delight in the abundance of migratory songbirds, waterfowl and white-tailed deer. Wild turkeys and rabbits also frequent the area.

Modern amenities such as laundry facilities and hot showers are available for a more comfortable camping experience. Sites also come with water and electric hookups for added convenience. Families will enjoy the playground, and visitors looking to entertain will find the group picnic shelter, which accommodates up to 50 guests, to be an excellent gathering spot. Parking, however, is not guaranteed.

Overview

Not far from Nashville, Laguardo is a great day-trip destination for kids and families. It offers a playground, boat ramp, and sandy beach to keep both the kids and adults entertained. Visitors looking for a little more action will find this area is also ideal for bank fishing.

Recreation

Laguardo is a popular spot for picnicking, swimming, bank fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and other water sports with a convenient boat ramp located within the facility.

Facilities

The group picnic shelter holds up to 50 guests and parking may be available for up to 50 vehicles. A restroom facility, family friendly playground, swimming area with sandy beach, and picnic tables located throughout the park are also available.

LONE BRANCH Campground

Overview

Lone Branch offers all the amenities visitors need for a peaceful Tennessee getaway. Plenty of trees to provide shade, grassy open areas to run around, grills for barbequing and a boat ramp.

Recreation

Boating and fishing are generally the main attractions for lake-goers, with anglers often catching black bass, crappie and catfish.

Facilities

Both group picnic shelters have electric hookups and grills, and each holds up to 50 guests; however, parking may be limited. A boat ramp is also available for use.

NAT CALDWELL PARK Campground

Overview

Nat Caldwell Park is located right off of US-31E/Nashville Pike. This park is an ideal place for a day of picnicking and other outdoor activities.

Recreation

Nat Caldwell is smaller and not as busy as some of the other parks in the area making it a great place to relax and enjoy your day. It offers a reserveable group picnic shelter, grill, open grassy areas, and shoreline for fishing. It also serves as a great place to launch kayaks and canoes from the shoreline due to the fact is is in the headwaters of Station Camp Creek on Old Hickory Lake. If you need to launch a larger boat, Station Camp Creek is located straight across Nashville Pike just off of Douglas Bend Road.

The group picnic shelter holds up to 50 guests with parking available for approximately 25 vehicles.

OLD HICKORY BEACH Campground

Overview

Old Hickory Beach sits along the lengthy shoreline of Old Hickory Lake. The day-use area is perfect for visitors looking to spend a day on the lake or lounging on the beach. Entertaining is easy with a large group picnic shelter accommodating up to 100 guests and grills for cooking out. Birders can find a mix of waterfowl, wading birds, migratory songbirds and the occasional Blue heron or Snowy egret. Other wildlife in the area includes wild turkey, rabbits and white-tailed deer.

Recreation

Swimming and sailing are popular activities on the lake, while anglers will find an abundant population of catfish, crappie and bass for exceptional bank and boat fishing. Hikers can explore the 1.1-mile Old Hickory Lake Nature Trail, featuring three loops (the Woodland Loop, Willow Swamp Loop and the Wildlife Loop), covering varying terrain. The trail is located below Old Hickory Dam near the tailwater parking lot.

SHUTES BRANCH Campground

Overview

Shutes Branch is located on the popular Old Hickory Lake, just a short drive outside of Nashville. There's plenty of opportunities for boating, biking, swimming and fishing, as well as sailing.

Recreation

Bikers of all skills levels will enjoy the Shutes Branch Mountain Biking Trail, accessed from the picnic area. The first part of the trail is ideal for beginners, while the second portion will challenge more experienced cyclists with rockier terrain, ledges and tight turns.

With its close vicinity to the water, Fishing and swimming are consistently popular activities at Shutes Branch.

Shutes Branch offers various picnic sites, a boat launch and fishing platform.

The reservable group picnic shelter holds 50 guests and comes with electric hookups.

ROCKLAND RECREATION AREA Campground

Overview

Rockland Recreation Area is located on the shore of Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Old Hickory Lake was created by the Army Corps of Engineers on the Cumberland River. The lake is named after former president Andrew Jackson, nicknamed for his tough and aggressive personality.

Recreation

Visitors enjoy a vast array of recreational opportunities at Old Hickory including waterskiing, fishing, boating, swimming and hiking. The area provides excellent fishing for several species including bass, crappie, walleye, sauger and catfish.

Facilities

Rockland Recreation Area contains five group shelters and one gazebo. All shelters are covered and readily equipped with tables and grills. Many of the visitors to the shelters find the ease of bank fishing popular within the Rockland Recreation Area. A volleyball court, playground, and large grassy areas are also available.

Natural Features

Set in a moderately wooded area, Rockland Recreation Area is host to numerous wetland species that occupy the wooded areas along the nature trails within the area. Migratory birds visit the area during the winter months as well as year-round forest birds.

Nearby Attractions

Nashville, Tennessee, is located within a 20 to 25 minute s\drive from Rockland Recreation Area. The Old Hickory Lake Resource Manager's Office and Visitor Center are located directly within the Rockland Recreation Area. A trip to the Visitor Center is an excellent way to learn more about the history, navigational facilities and other programs at Old Hickory Lake. There are numerous stores with amenities within the Old Hickory Lake area.
