Allatoona Lake
Allatoona Lake is one of the most frequently visited U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lakes in the nation. Located only 30 miles from Atlanta, more than 6 million visitors each year enjoy picnicking, camping, hunting, fishing, swimming and other water sports, and observing the abundant wildlife along the shores of this beautiful lake. The visitor center features video exhibits and displays about the area's history, ranging from the time of early Indians to the gold mining and iron making days, from Civil War up to the present.

Cottonwood Pass Area:
- No campfires at Rocky Basin Lakes or Chicken Spring Lake.
- Bear containers are required for storage of food and trash. Look at USFS Webpage for food storage restriction area maps.
- Check the area map for the correct trail name. Trips going toward Cottonwood Lakes are a different reservation.
- Golden Trout Wilderness regulations apply.
- Sequoia and Kings Canyon wilderness regulations apply if entering the National Park. (includes, Cross Country permit to hike to Mt Langley; no night box permit pickup)
- Deadline: Reservation will be canceled unless the permit pick up instructions are completed before the deadline. Instructions are in the confirmation letter.
- Only the group leader or alternate leader may pick up the permit; the person picking up the permit must be going on the wilderness trip.
- BE SURE YOUR DATES AND TRAIL ARE CORRECT - The entire group must start on the trail on the entry date listed. Reservations cannot be changed or transferred.

Long Description
Starting from Horseshoe Meadows, Cottonwood Pass is the gateway to the northern part of Golden Trout Wilderness and provides access to the Pacific Crest Trail. Small streams meander through tree-rimmed meadows in this wilderness area named for Californias state fish, the Golden Trout. Options for loop trips of various lengths branch out from Big Whitney Meadow. Following the Pacific Crest Trail north into Sequoia National Park leads to Crabtree Meadows and the headwaters of the Kern River. This is an active bear area; check food storage maps for were you must use bear resistant food containers to secure your food and refuse. Different quotas apply to other trails starting from Horseshoe Meadows. Please refer to the area map to identify the correct trail name.

McKaskey Creek Campground is situated on Allatoona Lake on the Etowah River, a tributary of the Coosa River. The serene lake and peaceful surroundings offer a relaxing getaway form the nearby city of Atlanta, just 45 miles north. Boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and swimming are popular activities on the 11-mile long Allatoona Lake. Its 270 miles of shoreline provide great opportunities for picnicking, hiking, hunting and relaxing.Facilities
The campground contains 51 sites, 32 of which have electrical and water hookups. Flush toilets, showers, picnic tables, grills and lantern posts are provided. Other amenities include a dump station, boat ramp, playground and swimming beach.
Natural Features
The rolling hills around Allatoona Lake are thickly forested with lush oak, maple, blackgum, dogwood, magnolia, hickory and the occasional pine tree. Ferns and honeysuckle bushes make up the understory.The dense hardwood forests are home to raccoons, opossum, bobcats, red and gray fox, white tail deer, squirrels, and chipmunks. From time to time, visitors even spot black bears roaming the area.

A playground is located between the two shelters. Horseshoes and volleyball can be loaned out by the onsite Park Hosts. An iron furnace from the 1800s is also within the park. Riverside Park Day Use Area has two open shelters within the park:
Shelter "A" is on the left once you enter the park. It is located on the Etowah River and has a maximum seating capacity of 200 people. Horseshoe pits, a sand volleyball court and an open playing field are adjacent to Shelter "A". Horseshoes and volleyball can be loaned out by the onsite Park Hosts.
Shelter "B" is further in the park in a wooded area along a creek. It is the smaller shelter and is within walking distance of the Etowah River. Shelter "B" has a maximum seating capacity of 50 people. A horseshoe pit is within 20 yards. Horseshoes can be loaned out by the onsite Park Hosts.
A restroom is within walking distance of both shelters. There is a boat ramp in the park to access the river. The Vinyard Mountain Hiking Trail can be accessed from inside the Riverside Park Day Use Area.
The very scenic Etowah Disc Golf Course is located in Riverside Day Use Area at the base of the Allatoona Dam on the Etowah River. Opening in late 2017, the course has become one of the most popular in North Georgia. The rolling hills around the park are thickly covered with a variety of hardwoods and ornamental trees, shrubs, and ferns. Stunning rock features, a creek, other scenic landmarks, and views of the Etowah River from several holes enhance your experience with scenery not found at any other metro Atlanta course.

The serene lake and peaceful surroundings offer visitors a relaxing getaway from the nearby city of Atlanta, just 35 miles south. Cooper Branch #2 Day Use Area has an open shelter with six picnic tables under the shelter providing a maximum seating capacity of 50 people. There are also electrical outlets inside the shelter. A large covered grill area is located adjacent to the shelter. A horseshoe pit is located 25 feet from the shelter; however, shelter users must provide horseshoes. A restoom is located 75 yards from the shelter.Natural Features
The rolling hills around Allatoona Lake are thickly forested with lush oak, maple, blackgum, dogwood, magnolia, hickory and the occasional pine tree. Ferns and honeysuckle bushes make up the understory. The dense hardwood forests are home to raccoons, opossum, bobcats, red and gray fox, white tail deer, squirrels, and chipmunks.
