Falls Lake

The US Army Corps of Engineers and the State of North Carolina would like to welcome you to Falls Lake. A man-made reservoir, Falls Lake is located in the upper portion of the Neuse River Basin, nestled very near North Carolina?s bustling ?Triangle Area.? The reservoir covers almost 12,500 acres with water, and is surrounded by 25,500 acres of public land. The dam is located just outside of Raleigh, and the lake stretches 22 miles upstream to the confluence of the Eno, Flat, and Little Rivers near Durham. Falls Lake offers many recreational opportunities to the public. Take some time to get to know Falls Lake and the opportunities it provides right here amid the rapidly growing triangle area!

Direction

Leave Hwy 395 in Bishop, and turn west on Line Street. Follow Hwy 168 in the direction of South Lake. The Tyee Lakes trail is located by Willow Campground, across the footbridge over Bishop Creek. Parking is a roadside dirt lot.

Long Description

Beginning near Willow Campground, the Tyee Trail crosses the bridge over Bishop Creek. This steep trail with many switch backs has great views of the Inconsolable Range and the peaks that surround South Lake. The Tyee Lakes are near the top of Table Mountain. A less distinct trail continues on to connect with the George Lake Trail over Table Mountain. Tyee Lakes Trail is not recommended for stock. Please refer to the area map for other trail names.
